Digital X-Rays

We will take digital X-rays of your teeth, jaw, and mouth to get a more detailed look for any potential issues. The digital X-rays may reveal decay in between teeth, impacted teeth, infection, jaw damage, or jaw misalignment, all of which should be addressed immediately. We offer our cone beam CT, which takes 3D images of your bone levels so we can map out implant placements. In addition, we use our intraoral camera so we can show you the findings at the end of your exam and explain everything.

The digital imaging options we offer are:

  • Cone beam
  • Panoramic dental X- ray
  • Intraoral X-ray
  • Intraoral camera

These cutting-edge technologies allow our dentist and hygienists to know exactly what is going on with your smile, letting us make more detailed and effective treatment strategies to address any oral health issues you are experiencing. Plus, digital X-rays use less radiation than traditional X-rays and are safer for you, as well as being safer for the environment.

If you have any questions about digital X-rays please contact Potomac Dental Centre today. Our experienced and excited team will be happy to help you on every step of your dental health.

Tooth Colored Dental Fillings

A dental filling is a restorative treatment used to repair minor to moderate tooth damage. We are pleased to offer high-quality dental fillings including tooth-colored fillings for patients who are concerned about the aesthetics of their smiles.

White fillings, composite fillings, or tooth-colored fillings are created from composite resin. Composite resin is a durable material that is available in a wide variety of shades, and our dentists will match the shade of the composite resin to your natural tooth color for a natural-looking, aesthetic restoration. Composite resin contains no mercury or other metals. In addition, the composite resin bonds with the natural tooth structure to strengthen the tooth and prevent further decay in the future.

Our dentists may prescribe a dental filling if the decay or damage is not extensive enough to require the use of a dental crown. We can use a dental filling to repair a cracked or decayed tooth, and to restore its strength and structure. Our dentist will first remove the decayed and damaged portion of the tooth, then clean it to remove all traces of decay. We then fill the area with the filling material and shape it to match your tooth’s shape. Finally, the filling is hardened for a lasting restoration. For more information about our dental fillings, and to schedule your visit with our team, call Potomac Dental Centre today.

Same-Day Dental Crowns

For the length of a movie, you can get a crown here at Potomac Dental Centre. We use our digital scanning technology to make your custom crown in one easy visit here in our very own lab.

When a tooth has become moderately to severely damaged our dentists may prescribe a dental crown. Crowns are tooth-shaped caps that completely encase a damaged tooth up to the gum line. They are most often used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance. We are pleased to offer CEREC crowns to the surrounding communities to make your treatment easy and comfortable.

We offer dental crowns to:

  • Restore a significantly damaged tooth.
  • Contain recurrent decay.
  • Attach a dental bridge.
  • Complete a dental implant.
  • Strengthen a weakened tooth.
  • Protect and support an existing filling that is in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated.
  • Improve the function and appearance of an irregularly shaped tooth.
  • Restore a discolored tooth to its original appearance.

Crowns are most often made from porcelain or porcelain fused to metal to ensure you maintain a natural, attractive aesthetic. In the past, it took multiple appointments and weeks of waiting before your final crown was available for placement. Thanks to CEREC technology, Potomac Dental Centre is able to design, create and place your dental crown in a single visit. For more information on how same-day dental crowns can restore your oral health, we invite you to schedule an appointment with us today.

Dental Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth, our dentist may recommend a dental bridge to restore your oral health. Dental bridges are natural-looking, custom made dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth by being cemented onto the teeth or a dental implant on either side of a gap in your smile. Because they are custom made, bridges are barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of teeth as well as the proper bite relationship between the upper and lower teeth.

There are several types of fixed (non-removable) dental bridges, including:

  • Conventional fixed bridges
  • Cantilever bridges
  • Resin-bonded bridges
  • Implant-supported bridges.

Dental bridges can be made from porcelain, zirconia, gold alloys, or a combination of materials. Porcelain is a popular choice for dental bridges because its appearance is very similar to that of the natural teeth. Our dentists will help you determine which type of dental bridge and which material will best fit your personal dental needs and goals.

If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to learn more about dental bridges, we welcome you to call us or visit us today at Potomac Dental Centre. Our team is committed to helping you have the best possible oral health.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canals are tiny passageways that branch off from beneath the top of the tooth, coursing their way downward until they reach the tip of the root. Many tooth problems involve infections that spread to the pulp, which is in the inner chamber of the tooth and contains blood vessels, nerves, and other tissues. If an infection progresses, it can begin to affect the roots of a tooth.

A diseased inner tooth brings a host of problems, including pain and sensitivity, which may be the first indications of a problem. A spreading infection can also cause small pockets of pus to develop, which can lead to an abscess. Dental infections, can develop as a result of:

• Cavities
• Tooth trauma
• Decay

Root canal therapy is a remarkable treatment with a very high rate of success that can halt the spread of infection and restore the healthy portion of the tooth. In fact, root canal therapy is designed to save a problem tooth. Before the treatment was developed, the only alternative for treating a diseased tooth was extraction.

Root canal therapy usually entails one to three visits. During root canal therapy, our dentists will gently remove the infected tissues and fill the tooth with an elastic material and medication designed to prevent infection. The tooth is then sealed with a dental crown to restore its function and structure. Most patients who have root canal therapy at Potomac Dental Centre experience little to no discomfort or pain.

If you require root canal treatment, our dentist and team will ensure that your procedure is comfortable and that you are fully informed on all of your treatment options. Call to schedule your visit today.

Tooth Extractions

At Potomac Dental Centre, we try to avoid tooth extraction whenever possible, so you can feel confident that we will not recommend a tooth extraction unless it is truly necessary. However, in certain cases, tooth extraction may be the best option for restoring and preserving your oral health. Our dentists may recommend a tooth extraction if:

  • Infection has destroyed a large portion of the tooth and supporting bone structure
  • There is not enough room for all of the teeth to properly fit in the mouth
  • A tooth is severely damaged or decayed, making an effective restoration impossible

Our caring dental team will ensure that your tooth extraction is as painless and comfortable as possible. We will make sure you know how best to care for your smile while you are healing, and we are happy to discuss tooth replacement options, such as dental bridges or dental implants, with you both before and after the tooth extraction.

If you are experiencing any type of dental pain, we welcome you to contact our dental office today to learn more about our dental treatments and to schedule your visit with our dentist. We are dedicated to improving your oral health.

Dentures

Dentures are removable oral appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth and restore the function, beauty and health of your smile. If you are missing multiple teeth, dentures may be the solution you need. There are two main types of dentures:

  • Full dentures (complete dentures), which are used to replace all of the natural teeth in the upper and/or lower jaw.
  • Partial dentures, which are used to replace multiple missing teeth when some natural teeth remain.

Our team is pleased to provide both full and partial dentures to accommodate all of your dental needs. Our dentures are custom made to perfectly fit your smile.

Dentures can improve your smile by restoring lost facial volume, enhancing the appearance of your smile, and improving your ability to properly eat, speak, and chew. Because dentures are created from materials that mimic the look and feel of natural teeth and gums, you can feel confident knowing that your smile looks natural and beautiful. We will ensure that your full and partial dentures fit securely, comfortably, and aesthetically so you can smile with confidence.

We welcome you to call us or visit Potomac Dental Centre today to learn more about dentures and how we can improve your smile.

Night Guards

Our dentists may recommend a night guard if you are experiencing symptoms of bruxism (teeth grinding), such as tooth wear, an aching jaw or migraines. A night guard is a special type of mouth guard that is used to treat bruxism, or teeth grinding and clenching. A custom-made night guard fits your smile and provides a stable cushion for your teeth and jaws to prevent further damage and preserve your teeth.

If our team suspects that you suffer from bruxism, we may recommend a night guard to protect your teeth from damage and prevent teeth grinding while you sleep. Many people who suffer from bruxism are unaware of the condition because it occurs while they sleep. Common signs of nighttime teeth clenching and grinding include:

  • Chronic jaw pain, facial pain and ear pain.
  • Waking up with a tired or tight feeling in the jaw.
  • Frequent tension headaches and migraines.
  • Excessive tooth wear, leading to chipped, flattened, cracked or very worn teeth.
  • Extremely worn tooth enamel, exposing the inner layers of the tooth.
  • Indentations on the side of the tongue.
  • Increased tooth sensitivity.

If you notice the signs of bruxism, you may benefit from a custom night guard. Do not hesitate to ask our team about night guard options for you. Call Potomac Dental Centre today to learn more.
